Hiking the "Y"

For those of you who aren't familiar with Provo or it's landscape, I'll give you a quick description:

Provo is located in Utah Valley, about 45 minutes south of Salt Lake City. Yes that is correct, it is in a valley. To the east of the city lies a mountain range that follows north and south, all the way to Salt Lake and beyond.

It seems to be a bit of a tradition in the U.S. (Whenever there are mountains anyway.) To sketch the letter of the school, or town or city. Whatever it may be, onto the side of the mountain.

In Provo there is a giant "Y" painted in white on the side of a mountain, standing for BYU.

One beautiful Sunday in March, Jayson and I decided we would hike the "Y" (thats what everyone calls it.) It was a very boring hike, there are no trees, it's a zig zag path, and it's kinda steep. I don't think we'll be doing it again anytime soon. But here are some pictures:
Jayson and I ready to start the climb
He's the "King the the World" We haven't even made it to the top yet!
I don't even know what to say about this one

A view from the top, It's a really BIG "Y"

We folks, there you have it... another post, to help your craving.

The Wedding

I know Jay and I have been married for three months now, but I really need to update so here I go.

I left Canada, December 12 with my mom, grandma, and brother Tyler. We drove down in my Kia Rio hatch back, so we had more room then a regular car for luggage. The problem was that I wasn't coming back so I packed a lot of stuff, that also included my cat, Epitaph. Of course mom had to bring her dog, Benny. So the car was loaded, literally.

We left the house at 5 am and with a 12 hour drive ahead of us, it was needed. Everything went smoothly, the boarder, the weather, the price of gas. All was well until I got a phone call from Jayson's mom, Karrie. We were about 10 minutes from Pocatello Idaho. I was driving and needed to make one last stop to get gas before we got to Provo.

I took the exit, then turned left into the gas station, I had to yield to the oncoming traffic and as I did my car stalked. With vehicles behind me, I quickly got off the phone and turned the key. NOTHING! Finally mom and tyler got out and pushed the car to the gas station. Scary, as I honked to worn on coming traffic. Luckily we made it safely.

I called CAA and got a tow truck to pick us up, and take us over to a garage. The guys at the garage looked at the car and within 30 minutes we found out that the timing belt snapped, and broke a piston. Needless to say, we wouldn't be driving the car to Provo. One of the men at the shop drove mom and I over to a car rental place, so we could get to our destination.

Our trip ended up being 4 hours longer then planned, but we finally made it! Too bad the stress didn't end there.

I had an appointment the next day at the dress rental shop and 10 am. Mom and I showed up and no one was there. We waited about 15 minutes and when no one showed, we went to plan B. which was find a place where I can get a dress and have it altered before the wedding in one week.

As I was trying on dresses at a store in the mall, we got a call from the rental shop. We ended up having to drop everything and run back. Sadly enough I had already found a dress I really liked, so the hour and a half we spent there was really a waste of time. Mom and I went to another store and found a dress (two actually) that I really really liked, and they were less expensive then the first one I liked. Which helped in choosing. However I had to choose between the two dresses at this store.

Between the stress of dress shopping, we needed to pick up Jayson from work and meeting Jayson's grandpa back at our place (he was bringing my stuff  Jayson brought down  after Thanksgiving.) My day was crazy!

Just as the stress was ending more came. I forgot to mention, before leaving Canada I went to the jeweler to pick up Jayson's wedding ring, but it hadn't come in get. It was already a day late. So while dealing with everything else I was also one the phone trying to figure out Jayson's ring situation.

I was able  to get in for alterations for the dress I picked out, on Monday. The dress would be ready to pick up on Thursday.

On tuesday, mom got a phone call from my uncle Bob, who had come on Saturday and picked up Grandma so she could visit. He got called back into work, so he wouldn't be able to drive her back before the wedding, like she wanted. He needed mom to drive out to Roosevelt, a two and a half hour drive to come get her. So off we went to Roosevelt. We hardly had time to pack an overnight bag.

Back to the ring, long story short I had the company I bought the ring from, ship it over night from where ever it was in Canada. However while in Roosevelt, we slipped over to Vernal, where my cousin Travis and his wife Erica live. She hooked me up with a spare ring, and a friend who could replace it if need be.

As the week came to a close and the Big Day got closer, things slowly worked out, the dress was done, we got a bed (it's a full, but it's a bed.) the ring came in on Friday so we didn't need the spare. Family started piling in, but the weather wasn't looking very nice.

Saturday hits and I have everything, Jayson has everything, all is well. Except a we walk into the Temple the sky is gray and the snow is falling. After being there for almost two hours, Jayson and I were pleasantly surprised to see clear blue skies as we left the temple.

Jayson and I honestly wondered the whole week if we were even supposed to get married!
But everything worked out and our day was perfect. I can even say now three months down the road, that nothing we face is easy, but those stories will come!
